hi, have a 1964(best we can tell) mf 35, perkins 3 cyl diese. this tractor has what we believe is the diverter valve under the right side of the seat. there are two quick connect male tips on the opposite side of the tractor and a pipe nipple with a cap on the diverter valve. we are trying to hook up an edwards fork lift, and don't know which port is supply and whick is return, and one of them is supposed to operate the lift arms from a remote valve. anyone help? thanks in advance, js

When all else fails, I pull out the kill switch, remove both couplings and crank the engine. Fluid comes out the source coupling.

If I understand the setup correctly, you have a diverter valve on the RHS of the lift cover with one capped off port, and then two male QR couplers screwed into either the pressure gantry of the lift head or directly to tank?

If this is the case then with the selector valve in one position you will isolate the capped off port and operate the link arms normally, if you have a QR coupler in the pressure line (trailer tipping port) then you will pressurise this when the arms are at the top and in constant pumping. With the selector valve in the other position you will pressurise the capped off port when in constant pumping regardless of link arm position. This is where you can feed the pressure port of a spool block from. If you have a QR coupler screwed into the centre housing, possibly the PTO selector lever plate, you can use this as the return.

To test the setup, lower the link arms, move the position control to constant pumping and operate the selector valve before the arms get to the top. You should hear the pump working against pressure relief (often a knocking sound), and the engine labouring at tick over. Connect a pipe from a QR coupler to the pressure port. If you repeat the test and pump does not operate against relief then you have found the correct ports.
