I am restoring my granddad's f40 and in need of a tractormeter. I have found new ones listed for TO35,MH50,MF50 that seem pretty close to the original. I know the MH50 and MF50 are basically the same as the f40 but was wondering if the tractometer would be close the same. Almost forgot it is the z134 gas withe tach cable driven off the gen and is the standard utility

I was pretty sure it would work but wanted to check first. Also the one I'm looking at says it is for To35,early ser. no. MH50 and MF50 so I,m hoping it will be accurate.

The tachs. are the same as the MH 50. The
MF 50 is also the same but some later ones
showed a different tach.(1500 vs 1700)RPM
trans. None the less they would fit, look
and be quite accurate. Remember though a
hi-clearance and a standard tractor take a
different tach. There again they will fit
but would be less than accurate on the MPH
portion. Chuck.

David
I thought the same about fixing it myself some time ago but when I got in there I saw the water vapor had pretty much faded and rusted everything beyond what I could repair.
I was going to send it to a speedo shop and have it redone until found out how much it cost to have done. Then a few days ago I was looking for parts I came across a new reproduced that looked real close to original alot cheaper than I can have mine redone but they only list it being for the 35 and 50. I only have parts book for f40 but if the engines and trannys are the same, is the tractormeter the same?

Hi Jansonb
I've just done up the tractormeter for my MF65. It's the English made Lucas version of tractormeter. I thought it was totally wrecked - full of hard flaky rust and the main shaft totally siezed. I carefully prized off the chrome rim around the glass, and inside it is a beautiful high quality piece of gear which is very repairable, tho requiring some care.

Is yours missing, or is it siezed? If it's complete and not externally damaged, it may be worth checking further to see if it's repairable inside. I can walk you thru the steps I took to diassemble mine, if this would be helpful.

David Bloodwood.
