What happend to the peace of junk I was supost to get when I got MY M F 175 D thay told me it would always be broke dowen the axel would be broke in the rear the perkins was the worst make ther was ther were more perkins being rebelt then any other. it must be bad . the three point hitch was no good at all I heard this for years I onley bought it because i was desperate . I needed a tractor bad and the M F dealer made me a great offer on it when I was there looking at a W D 17. I went and talked to my macanic he seemed to like the way it was put together he got out the parts book and whent through it with me and said he dident as much trubel with them as with the other brands so I bought it and hoped it would hold out till I could get another tractor but affter I started useing it I couldent belive how much power it had. and how easey everthing worked and when I compared it to an I H how much sturdeyer it was now I wouldnt trade it for any other and if I buy another its going to be a M F how did M F get a bad rep. with a tractor like this or did I just get a good one

I own a MF35, build in 63, with a gas engine. Had it for almost 20 years. It has never seen a mechanic or repair shop while I had it. Just did the for tune-ups and the usual maintenance when scheduled. Works like a charm, has never left me stuck.

The 1100 series MF tractors are the equal to any tractor of the same age. Maybe even superior. I have a few 1st place pulling trophy's to prove it. Excellent lugging power, handling, operation and fuel economy. And on and on.

Over the years, Massey has proven to be the best tractor for the money.

I had trouble following your meandering sentiment. But I believe you are content with your Massey. I live in Deere country, so seeing a new Massey is pretty rare. I can truthfully say I am very pleased with my MF35, it does everything I ask of it. Happy and safe tractoring.

I was real interested to read what you wrote. I grew up with Internationals. My father wouldn't own anything else and we had them in all shapes and sizes over the years. Then one day he brought home a John Deere 1120 and I thought I was in heaven. Then we got another bigger John Deere. Through all this time spanning 30 years or so I always heard that Massey was junk and never got on one. In 1983 I got an old Pacer for the yard work. I soon found out that pound for pound there was never a better tractor made. The power to weight ratio is ridiculously good, the tractor is high off the ground and it has never once quit on me. It is the same age I am and maybe I'll have it buried next to me except that will be a waste of a good tractor 'cause it will outlive me. A couple years ago because of the expereince with the Pacer I bought a 1957 MF 50. Same thing. It is a bit low to take to the woods but it does everything and you can count on it day in and day out. Converted to Massey after years of junk International Harvesters, with the exception of a few which were good when they were new.

C'mon George, we've all been told the same kinds of things a million times about Ford, Dodge, and Chevy trucks. I have a hard time believing that you got sucked in by the story in the first place. Whether it's Massey or Deere or Case or whatever, they didn't get where they are by selling junk. Sure, there are always a few models that have some problems, but to believe anyone who says a major manufacturer makes nothing but junk is being a little bit of a country bumpkin. Even worse than believing it is reacting to it. I'm sure glad that I wasn't the guy who told you.

I think most everyone on this board know I was a Massey Ferguson mechanic for a good many years. I have heard people say they were a piece of junk from the time I started to work on them in the late 60s. Although most of these people had never even drove a Massey except around a dealers lot. Most everyone we sold one to said they would never have anything else after they had it a short time. In the late 70s & early 80s the 2000 series really hurt the reputation of the Massey Ferguson tractors but even they made a pretty good tractors after we got all the updates done on them.. I have worked on just about every brand none are as easy to work on as the Massey. They are one of the best when it comes to fuel economy. Just my two cents worth

As far as tractors being easy to work on, if you get into each and every make and model enough times you find all the short cuts and methods to make the job easy. The key is to have an open mind and listen to someone else whether they are slightly inexperienced or 85 years old. When it comes to junk they are all junk or mechanics would not be working. One man can get 15000 hours out of one model that the next man would reach 1000 hours on the same thing and have it destroyed. My 2 cents worth.

I agree, I've had my MF 35 with the perkins for 17 years, and I wouldn't think of parting with it.

I found the same experience with my 2135. It sure holds up and carries it's weight well, for a piece of junk. ;-)

I was told a different story whey I began looking for a tractor. I was told that you couldn't find a better tractor for your money than with MF. Looks like they were right.

from a old farmall man i must say massy fergeson tractor,s were real good only thing i never liked was having to raise you knees over your head to push the pedals in.i would say under 70 hp they only had one equel and that would be the thousand series ford,s. in the hi hp tractors there was none like harvester,s dt407-413-436-466,a real power house motor.have watched many times guy,s looking for recreational tractors pay 4000,00 for a 8-n ford and walk right by a 135-30-50 massy, boy did they miss the boat.

I'm no tractor expert, but have used and worked on many different tractors; Ford,IH and others. But when I got my first Massey I fell in love. It was a Massey 65 High Profile. That thing started and ran everytime I got on it. When I finally decided to get inside it to fix my pump and do a few other things, I just marvelled at the simplicity of design and the versatility. I'd buy Massey before any other, anytime and anyplace. I just got through buying a Massey Super90 LPG last summer against many warnings to stay away from them. This thing is amazing. Granted, parts are hard to find, but, they are out there. But this thing is powerful and there's nothing I attempt to do with it that it can not handle. Same simple and versatile design as my 65. For my buck there is no other tractor out there that can beat a Massey, PERIOD!

That's my 2 cents worth.
