I have a chance at a Dowdeswell 3 furrow reversible plough, but I'm going to have to go for another tractor as 60 horse ain't gonna do it. I have been wondering if an 1105 would be enough on silt loam slightly rolling with occasional heavy wet spots. Yes a 4wd would be nice but the budget forbids.
Thoughts, please.

Guy: MY better half is standing right here and she thinks you had better be thinking minivan. For you other guys, I am splat in the middle of the "Dundalk plains"(never even heard that phrase until about a year ago), always just called it Floatin' Proton. Our present three furrow is no problem for the 5000, it's the weight, an SAR 3x16 White that will put the front end in the air. Pulled 4x16 once and it was pick a gear, any gear.

Hi, Tom, It is my semi-professional opinion that you need a bigger tractor to pull the new plough. Feel free to use this opinion to gain the support of others towards this purchase.

(That being said, could you please tell my better-half we really NEED a 1986 Cadillac/Superior side-loading hearse?)

Thank you
Guy

I am surprised 60 had a hard time with it. We pulled a 3,14 inch for years with our 165 diesel in grey county sandy loam with some clay spots. Worked good in 4 th. low range. Thats around the Hanover area for the Ont. boys. Rick.

Off topic. Back in dec., you sent me a reply on a query i had on a flurry bissel disc. I was wondering if you could e-mail me a copy of the brochure you have so I can take it to a paint store to get the proper colour to paint my disc this summer?
By the way, where are you located in Ontario?
I'm in Goderich.

Thanks

I would think that for three bottoms you have enough at 60 hp. An 1105 should pull that at any speed you want. We used to pull 4 14" bottoms through sandy loam all day with an MF175 (with a rake and crow foot packer on). We used the same plough in brookston clay (sp?). We dropped it back a gear for the clay, and it made her grunt, but she did the job.

As far as weight goes, we had a fair amount on the front of the 175 but the 3ph was up to it. I have no idea what a mounted roll over would weigh.

Good Day.
