Hi Fellas - My son is looking at an 1100 with just over 2400 hrs on the clock. Would there be anything to check, any weaknesses, how about parts? Thanks.

One of the best tractors in that horsepower range ever made. Tough tractor that's good on fuel. Just watch out for the multipower the tractor freewheels in low, like it says "shift to high for engine braking."

There really isnt to much they were known for, we have around 5 1100s and havent had major problems with them. The oldest got overhauled at 11,000 hours. The most major problem is probably park, just make sure it dont get stuck in park. (let the clutch out before you put it in park always, its no fun taking the fuel tank off and replacing the key inside)the only time you would have to replace the key in the park is if you dont let the clutch out before you put it in park and its caught in gear a little.

Thanks Logan & barnrat - The only question I have now, is whether it's worth the $12000. asking price?

I think the 1100s are a greeat tractor. Better than the 4020s, IMHO.

But I don't think they're worth $12,000. I'd guess more like $7,000 to $8,000 in good condition.

That seams a little steep, picked up another 1100 a few years ago, in good shape with a schwarts loader on it for $5000.00, if you get one and the low high range shifts hard get some good light oil and get it into where the linkage shaft goes through the casting by the brakes and it will shift from high to low with one finger..

Last fall I bought an 1130 for $4900 it was in good shape I spent another 5 grand in parts and tires putting it into "perfect" shape. People will pay $12,000 for a good JD 4020. If this 1100 is in good shape with no leaks, good tires and some kind of recent overhaul I wouldn't pay any more than $6-8,000. If those 2500 hours are original and the thing has perfect original paint and decals and is otherwise showroom condition maybe 12 grand to a wealthy Massey collector.

Thanks barnrat, I was a little concerned that it was too much. We do try to seek out tractors in exceptional condition because we only run 200 acres, can't justify new, but don't want any headaches in haying time !
