Hello, I have a belt driven hydraulic pump off of a Massey 750 combine that I am using on another machine. The pump has on large inlet fitting and two outlet fittings on the pressure side. I was wondering if both of the outlet fittings were high pressure of if one were lower pres. than the other. One is one size bigger than the other. One is labled A, the other B. I only need one outlet fitting, could I plug the other without hurting the pump. Thanks for the help. YC

You can tie the small and large ports together, but you still need to shim up the releif valve on the steering port (small port) or it will relieve if the pressure on the main port exeeds 1300-1500 psi. The main port has no releif valve in the pump, because it uses the one on the Massey header valve. The steering relief valve is the small cap on the pump. You will find a spring and probabably some thin shims under it. Add some more shims (small lock washer). It is not critical as long as you have a releif valve on the main system, which will then protect both ports on the pump. I presume there is a relief valve on the controls for the chipper already.

The small port is for the steering on the combine.
It is is fed from the flow divider (appoximately 4 gallons per minute) and i sprotected by a shimmable relief valve (1300-1700 psi). If you plug the small port the relief valve will constantly blow creating tremedous heat. The large port provides aboout 8-12 gallons per minute depending on which pump it is. There is no relief valve on this side of the flow divider.
You will either have to return the small port to your reservoir or remove the flow divder spool and then shim up the releif valve higher than the sytem pressure you want. You should then be able to plug the small port.

Hello Tom,
Good to hear from you again. Thanks for the advice on the pump. Could I tee the small port in with the large port and have them both go toward the load, which in this case is a pair of hydraulic motors turning feed rollers on a brush chipper? Is the pressure at the big port the same as you stated is on the little port. Thanks for the help. YC

I think you could t them together. The steering port just takes priority over the other, so if something happens you would still have steering. Should be the same preasure on both I would think.

Take note, this is only my opinion, and stated as such
