Okay, I've been looking for a utility type loader tractor for about 6 months now and there aren't very many of them around in West Texas.

I think I finally found one that has some possibilities but wanted to check here first to see what you guys thought and to see anything special I should look for.

First off the tractor is listed as a 1965 Massey Ferguson 20 and I know that isn't right because they didn't make them in 1965.

Here is a picture of the tractor:

Under description it just says "1965 MASSEY-FERGUSON 20, 39 hp, 2WD, loader tractor, diesel, box blade. $5,200"

I've been looking high and low for a decent loader tractor for occasional use. They are more expensive around here but by the time I pay for shipping a cheaper tractor from Pennsylvania or Minnesota, it about equals what I could buy local for, and I can at least go look at this one before I buy it.

Any tips or things I should look for would be appreciated. I have an old Farmall M that I will probably keep and use it for mowing and stuff and this mainly for smoothing my road and moving stuff around.

Thanks in advance.

Nathan

Gary F is right that is an MF40 with an MF34 loader. They were built starting in 1969 and into 1970 they are rated at 42 HP. They came with either an AD3-152 Perkins diesel or an AG3-152 Perkins gas engine. They usually had one of the two different shuttle shift transmission either the Manual shuttle these have a clutch pedal or the Instant Reverse these have no clutch but a set of pedals on the right side of the transmission for forward and reverse. My web site has an article on it telling you what to look for when buying an MF tractor. If it happens to have the instant reverse it should go into gear almost immediately when one of the pedals are pushed if it hesitates that could mean trouble be sure to run it enough to get the transmission oil hot. If I can be of more help email me

Nathan... that looks like a picture of a MF40 with a MF34 loader. I think the UK made 20's hade planetary rear axles but the NA machines had the same rear as the 135. Actually the NA made MF20 looks like the NA made MF135 just yellow like the 2135 Big Dean has info on the serial #'s and other stuff to look out for.
