I have a 1980 MF 230 Diesel and it leaks a substantial amount of fuel from the area where the throttle rod connects to the pump. Is there a remedy to this without purchasing a new pump. The instructions I saw on this is that the only items adjustable is the idle limit screw. Tightening the screw where the throttle connects to the pump does not good.

If this is a CAV DPA pump then there is an O-ring on that shaft. Now I am going to punt. You do not need a new pump but you will need to know what you are doing. Does your dealer say if he changes them Do you feel comfortable talking to a diesel shop and asking about repairing just that?

Not sure what a CAV DPA pump is since I am a novice on tractors. This an old tractor that I had been using for occasional farm chores. There is a shop that I have been using, I will take it to them if I cannot replace the O-Ring. I was able to remove the small shaft but I don't know if it will take an O-Ring.

Thanks

Whatever you do be CLINICALLY CLEAN. Injection pumps are delicate pieces of precision engineering and do not like any form of dirt getting in. If you have removed the cover be sure that you note exactly where everything goes. There are a number of different combinations of spring positions etc, for different engines. If you get it wrong you could end up over reving the engine and doing significant damage.

As far as I know there are two o-rings on the throttle shaft and two on the fuel cut off. Change them all if you're going to do one. If you are at all unsure give the job to someone who knows about pumps, you will save in the long run.
