Will I need to remove the wheels to change the disc brakes?

Thanks for the pictures and advice guys. I was planning on replacing all the fluids in the transmission/rear before I change the brakes. Should I wait on the fluids until after I swap the discs (i.e. will I lose fluid when taking off the parts to get to the discs)?

Drain the fluids first, then do the work it will make for a cleaner job. Re/fill it when done. If you want to you can slip out the differential and clean out the goop below it when it is apart. Mark H.

Yes unless you realy want to work with some heavy weight leaving it on. This is what is inside the Trumpet. You can see the disk brakes assembley near the differential. One Disk contact surface is near the differential and the other is inside the trumpet. Between the disk brakes linings is 2 more surfaces that push out to pinch the disks. The axle goes thru the disk brake linings. Hope this helps. Mark H.

I'M TOLD THE 165 IS THE AG OF THE 3165. I AM IN THE ADJUSTMENT STAGE OF MY BRAKE JOB ON THE 3165. THE HARDEST THING WAS GETTING SEALS IN CARRIER PLATES WITHOUT DAMAGING THEM. ALSO MY DIFF. LOCK SHAFT WAS FROZEN IN AXLE HOUSING,USED A SLIDE HAMMER AND CLEVIS TO GET IT OUT. IT WAS A JOB BUT I ENJOYED GETTING MY HANDS DIRTY. MY WIFE SAW IT ALL APART AND THOUGHT I BROKE SOMETHING. THANKS AND GOOD LUCK

Yes, you have to take the axle housing off of the differential case.

At the dealership we used a 1/4in chain around the center of the tread and took the tire and housing at the same time. We used a chain hoist and A frame but a cheery picker would work fine.
