To help an ignorant Aussie, can someone explain what a 'bush hog' is? I assume it's an implement...
Thanks
David

A rotary mower indeed. Also commonly called a shredder here in Texas.

Don't forget the UK!
Normally they are called 'Toppers' here and are used for light to medium cutting of grass to brush etc. Many firms make 'Toppers' for the UK notably Wessex. Anything heavier and you'll need a read mounted of side arm (reach mower) with heavy head and/or flails.
It's not a plug but have a look at www.noremat.fr

To further confuse things the Brush Hog Rotary mower is named a Squeeler by the Co. Not sure I spelled that right.

Its a brand name that gets used for all brands, like the English that Hoover there rugs, instead of vacuum them.

Bush Hog is a company that makes or markets many farm implements. They make front end loaders, disc mowers, post hole diggers and rotary cutting brush hogs. We have a no-til drill with the name Bush Hog on it. The term bush hog is used many times to discribe a rotary cutter(brush-hog) and yes they do get a lot of free advertizment.

Kinda wish you hadn't asked. I have to get up on my soapbox each time I see the question asked. For some stupid reason, people call every brand of rotary cutter(ie John Deere bushog)by the company name Bushog. The Bushog company gets a lot of free advertising with these comments. Bushog makes a very good cutter, but please people call a spade a spade.

question keeps popping up

its a large heavy duty rotary mower, hooks behind tractor, usually on 3 point hitch and runs off PTO

good for chewing up tall weeds, brush, old 12 volt car batteries and bedsprings

If you don't know what a bush hog is, you are probably on the wrong web site.

Sounds like what we call a "slasher" - also good for cutting up snakes, field mice, old fencing wire, and stalling on concealed stumps...
Perhaps using the term "slasher" would save that company getting all its free publicity...

I like that term "slasher," and think I will start using it here. Such mowers are also commonly called shredders or choppers here but the most common name at least in my part of the US is bush hog (regardless of manufacturer).
