Have you contacted your local MF dealer? He should be able to obtain manuals for your use. Which 281 model do you own? Thinking there were 281, 281X and 281XE models available.

I think that the 281 was made in about 2000 or 2001. I don't know how long they were made but I do know that they were made up until about 2002 when they were replaced by the 400 series. I have a 471. If I am not mistaken the 282 should have about 70 pto horsepower. They are a good simple tractor that used a well proven drivetrain. Your local MF dealer should be able to get you an owner's manual.

Is your 471 cab or open ? Do you find your 471 kind of loud. I test drove a 481 and a 471 and I found them kind of loud but a great tractor.
Thanks Mike

My 471 is an open tractor, I agree with you they are kind of loud, this could be more of the muffler than anything else,I don't know. I have a friend that has a 3cylinder Long and he was told by the dealer that he could change the muffler and it would help a lot.
