I bought an old 1150 that had been sitting for a few years and am trying to get everything working again. I had to replace a coupling to get the charge pump working, but it still doesn"t work until the tractor has been cranked for a while. I have cleaned the screen and changed the filter. After it runs for a while, the pressure suddenly appears and is correct on both the low and high volume sides of the charge pump. I have good brakes, steering, and hydraulics. I have no pto or multipower. If I loosen the pressure testing plugs I have a lot of air in the system and am wondering if this is my problem. Is there a way to bleed the hydraulic system, or should I have to.
Thanks.
Rusty

A service manual or I&T will help you best, but I'll givwe it a try. First you didn't say if the seat works or not. Next the IPTO and multipower use their own pump(low pressure/low volume,6gpm 225-275psi). This is a closed center system. If none of these functions are being used then fluid is dumped to the charging side of the pump(low pressure, 90-100psi high volume, 17gpm) via the combining valve. I believe your combining valve is malfuntioning or the low volume side of the charge pump is not working.

I wish I had a parts book to help me remember how this all goes together, I was a teenager when I used to take these apart in my dad's shop. The multi power was one of those things that either worked or it didn't. It will not slip, the tractor will either stay in low multi power, or drop back into low if there is a problem with the system. Things to consider, you have determined there is good hyd pressure, but hyd oil could be leaking pressure off before it gets to the pack. If I remember, there is a couple of compressed seals on the end of the multi power clutch assembley (they look like piston rings) where it slips into place. They can get cut when the pack is pushed in place. If you go that far to look at the seals, go ahead and open up the clutch pack. Squeeze with a press so you can get the big snap ring out. Then the alternating clutch and pressure plates. You will be able to easily tell if its worn or burned up. Again I wished I had a manual...been a long time. J

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that the multipower would slip if bad. More than likely it needs rebuilding. If I went to the trouble to take it out, I am sure I would anyway. As it stands I really don"t need the multipower and will wait until I just want to fix it. Thanks.

I never had to bleed air from the hyd on a 1100, 1130 or 1150 tractors. I believe it should bleed out just from the first run. When you said that you changed a coupler, I assume it is the one fwd of the charge pump, is about 2 inches long by 1 inch D. This coupler also is part of the drive for the PTO. With a stripped coupler, the PTO, multipower and hyd will not work. The coupler is a common failure point on these tractors. Not sure, been a long time since I worked on these tractors, but it could be the main pump. Part of the main pump, on the fwd side of it, is a vave assembly that controls the pressure. You need to remove the pump to service this valve assy. HEAVY pump. We had a special tool to hold the pump for removal and install. Also, the PTO and multi power failures, could be the clutch packs for these units are burned up. This was also a common failure on these tractors. j

Thank you for the reply. I have since taken the charge pump back off and found that I had damaged the rubber washer the connects it to the pick up tube. After putting a new washer on the air is gone and everything works except the multi power. It still does not engage at all. If the clutch pack was worn out wouldn't it slip when engaged? As it stands now the tractor acts no differently when the lever is engaged or disengaged. THanks.
