Hi Folks,
For the 3rd time now I will have to take out the Hyd pump from my early 65 with perkins indirect inj and loader attach driven by the std hyd pump in the transmission. The main valve assy on the pump is actuated by a small dia spring loaded rod protruding from a plate. The sector control levers actuate against this rod to change the control valve. The problem is that the rod seems to get drawn back inside the plate and jams thus preventing it from returning. This means that the 3pt linkage always comes up and runs the relieve valve. The only way to fix it is to pull the pump out. How can I stop this happening AGAIN AS I AM SICK OF PULLING IT OUT!!!

Replace the valve assy, they are not dear. Be particularly careful to fit all the new washers in the correct place. I once rebuilt one and fitted one washer from the old valve by mistake. I had exactly the same problem as you. Fitting the correct parts rectified the problem. As David says it should oscilate to prevent sticking so check that this is connected up.

Hello,
This is not good. Control valves rarely stick and if they do then there is normally a reason for it. Is the 'oscillator' in place and working. This is the mechanism between the pump shaft yokes (looks like a magnifying glass) and the steel tube that houses the spring. The idea is that as the pump turns the oscillator rocks back and forth and prevents the control valve sticking. Are the control valve washers a neat fit on the control valve without being loose or tight. When you tighten the aluminium filter body onto the back of the pump it is possible for this washer to be slightly out of line and prevent the control valve sliding freely. Tighten the bolts alternately and thoroughly check the smooth operation of the valve. Sometimes the valve will stick if the oil has become too hot.
Please let us know how you get on.
