Hi,
A grinding clutch may be caused by the PTO adjuster bolts being out. IF you go into the second stage, does the clutch engage freely?
Your bouncing of the linkage might be a serious leak in the system allowing it to drop slightly and then correcting its self. More likely you have a broken piston ring or poppet valve not closing. You can compare this to a four cylinder car engine running on three cylinders.
