I went to unclog the weep hole, but was not able to find one. I did note a plate on the bottom of the clutch bell housing. Its secured with 4 large bolts. I loosened 2 of the bolts and small bit of water and then thick oil came out. I am going to let it drain all night. So much oil, this just has me baffled.

Grapefarmer glad you posted again. If your tractor is gas and shifts forward to reverse via a foot pedal on the right hand side you have a MF204 with instant reverse trans. Transmision could have been swaped. It will have a torque converter in a separate housing from the main transmission. Level is checked via a fill plug on the right hand side down by the pedal. Don't know how oil could come out the starter hole. Can ask a friend who may have encountered a similar problem.

I checked the ID tag on the dash and its a 202. You may be right, it could have a 204 clutch and trans. I will try and get some pictures tomorrow.

Thanks

-Dave

I was wrong, it does not have the reverse foot pedal. I was looking a the foot excelerator. My mistake!

I have about 3 quarts of what looks like 5w30 that came out of the clutch area. This trator was bought at an auction and I wonder if someone put oil in the clutch to hide some other problem. It always turned over slow from the day we got it.

Dave...that oil will have saturated your clutch discs, sounds like it was in there for some time. I don't know how you could intentionally get oil into that area, although keeping it there would have been easy. That weep hole was there for leak detection and gave a place for the oil to run out.
Aside from the slow turning over how well did the clutch/trans operate?

Actually the clutch would grab nice and smooth. I have a old 1950 Case DC that has and oil clutch and it feels the same.

Also the plate on the botton of the bell housting has a gasket, like it was suposed to hold oil in.

Thanks for you input.

That plate is there so that adjustments can be made to the clutch

When I get my starter back from the rebuilder, I'll give you an update on how bad the clutch really is. :)

Gary, thanks for the help.
