just rebuilt my 23C engine with new pistons, liners, bearings, oil pump etc. When I started the engine I had no oil pressure. Took off the oil pressure pipe and turned of the engine on the starter - no oil at all. Took off the oil filter (had fitted a new filter) no oil at all. Seems like the pump is not lifting the oil. Took off the sump and checked that the oil pick up pipe was tight - yes. Took out the new oil pump and can"t see anything wrong although there was no oil in the housing or pump even though the engine had started.
Does a new pump on a rebuild need to be primed in any way? and if so, how is this done. I can only think of trying to push oil back through the systen through the oil pressure pipe bolt and hope that the oil begins to pump!

Yes, If it is a new pump you"ll need to prime it first,Place it in clean oil and turn it in the proper direction but in your case you probably can feed oil under pressure through the pipe and see what happens.. Make sure you do not let it run long with NO oil pressure because it don"t take long to spin a bearing or seize an engine....
