Tried to turn over the old 202 today and the start motor smoked. Remove the starter motor and it was dripping with oil. Then I noticed the clutch housing was half full of oil. Is this normal or did something go wrong?

Thanks

Dave... sorry, it doesn't sound good. Big Dean may have covered this in his "What to Look for when buying a MF tractor". Chances are the weep hole under the clutch/flywheel is plugged and over time the level has come up inside there.
As David suggested one of the other levels must be exceedingly high (trans or engine)

Hi Dave,
Errrrr.....no, this is not normal. First of all, what colour is the oil? If it is black, it will almost certainly have come from the engine via the rear crank seal which will entail engine removal at the least along with clutch and flywheel to get at the crank seal. If it is clearer then it looks like transmission oil. This normally runs along the shaft that goes into the clutch plate. Not sure about the 202 but it is likely to be a big job to replace the seal arrangement.
However, what is a little more worrying is that if as you say the clutch housing was 'half full' of oil is where it has come from. Oil levels are normally below the level of the seal and I would first of all check the transmission and engine oil levels looking for the possible ingress of water either from the cooling system or outside. With the engine it is quite possible for the diaphragm in the fuel lift pump to have perished and allow fuel to run through into the sump. Sorry for the bad news on Christmas Day.
Have a good one anyway.

The engine oil is fine (good news). The oil in the clutch housing is a brown color and a thin viscosity. I am sure there is some water mixed in there also. The tractor does sit out side. The tractor has one of those quick reverse pedels. I think I read on Big Deans site there is a some type of tork converter clutch that can leak. I am going to try to unplug those weep holes and see if it is mostly water. Thanks for all the good advise.

Dave..I think you have a MF204 it had the torque converter. These machines had another reservoir for the torque converter it was at your right foot. I think 1 1/8 plug.
