Ive never used either , but its my impression either will work to break up hard pan? How large of one will a MF 175 pull? How much do they cost used? Merry Christmas to all.

We've a ferguson single tooth subsoiler. Goes down about 2 feet with disc removed. Horsepower needed depends on soil. Ours is medium & the MF135 pulls it easily. The TE 20 has to get down to it, but copes in 1st gear. Subsoiling is best done slowly anyway.

I beleive they figure 45hp per tooth on a sub-soiler. I use a one tooth on a mf231 and its all she wants.

I think I saw a 3 point 1 bottom King Kutter sub soiler at TSC it seemed heavy enough for moderate use. The neighbor has an old trip lift IHC on steel that weighs a ton and really does a nice job it must go down 2 feet it came new with the 10-20 and I am sure it was all it could do to pull it. I guess it depends how much production you are expecting to get. T.J.

A SUBSOILER GENERALLY GOES DEEPER THAN A CHISEL PLOW, BUT ALSO TAKES MORE HORSEPOWER TO PULL. I'VE GOT A 5 SHANK SUBSOILER AND PULL IT WITH A 1086 IH, AND IT'S ALL IT WANTS. A SMALL CHISEL PLOW WOULD PROBABLY BE YOUR BEST BET. I'VE GOT A 275 MF THAT WILL HANDLE A SMALL CHISEL BUT WOULDN'T DREAM OF HANDLING THE SUBSOILER.

We used to pull a single shank subsoiler with a JD 2010G about 48 PTO HP and it worked great. Unless you have plenty of horsepower you won"t get a chisel plow deep enough to break up the hardpan completely
