A dealer I know has a 1977,275 diesel with a front-end loader on it. I've been looking for something with a bucket, but I'm wondering if the 275 is too big a tractor for my needs. I use my Ford 640 with a 6' finishing mower on it to mow about 2-1/2 to 3 acres in the summer and plow snow off the 400 foot lane in the winter, plus hauling in firewood. I don't do any farming. I plan on keeping the Ford 640. I can see where a bucket would really come in handy, and that's what got me started looking for something with a bucket on it. The guy is asking $8500 for it. I haven't seen it yet, don't know how many hours are on the engine, but he says it's in really good shape. I've known him for several years and he's honest. I figure I can get him down to $8000. Too high? Need some advice fellas! Thanks!

If in good contion and loader isn't bent or anything that is a fair deal. I paid $6,000 for a 255 a couple years ago from a dealer-tires were pretty tired and I just repainted.

If it doesn't have rops that is $1,200 (from AGCO) to consider adding-but I wouldn't run a loader tractor without it.

Rollover Protection System, basically a roll bar but a little more complex. C. T.

Price sounds reasonable,I paid about that for a 275
and 236 loader a year ago.Make sure it has rear weights and fluid in rear tires if you are going to move snow.Mine has weights but no fluid and will not go any where in heavy snow,it has 18.4x28 tires, but just spins tires with weight of loader and snow on front of tractor.Other than having to remove loader to get to battery its a good tractor.

I'd go with tire chains. Our 165 has loaded tires(16.9-28's I think) and they spin like crazy without chains. Put them on and you gain a lot of pushing power. I could see how the battery location would be a problem, we've got a 285 with the batteries in the front like that as well. The 165 has it right under the dash and is relatively easy to access.
