Hello John - The 23 C in our 35 had separate right hand exhaust and intake manifolds, horseshoe type clamps holding the injectors in place on the left. The injector pump is driven from an adaptor gear housing bolted to the left front side of the block, with the block to adaptor connection and gasket roughly a 3" w at the top x 8" high rectangle, with the lower front half tapering back to about 1.5" wide at the bottom. Oil filler cap on top of this adaptor block. Oil filter immediately below the adaptor. Tach drive connection on front of the adaptor block, aligned with injector pump axis. It has a valve cover plate about 3" high and 14?" long, running behind the injector pump from the adaptor to the rear of the block, with the top aligned with the top of the inj drive adaptor. Early ones had a breather on the rear of this cover. Fuel pump at the left rear, about half way down. Oil dip stick about 3/4 way back on the left. Three prominent webs bracing the block and bell housing mounting flange. Block may have "BILCHROME" cast into it. Early units had a thermostart in the intake manifold, with a fuel and electrical connection, later ones had 4 glow plugs in the left side of the head. Serial number on the top right side of the block, SJ ###### E. Generator and starter on right. Starter MF # 184 907 M1. I think ours was a CAV 450129 1320090. I seem to recall it was interchangeable with the Delcos used on the Perkins in the 35, 65, 135, but can't be sure - sold the tractor last year. Try asking Big Dean - he had a lot of experience with them. "Hey Big Dean - Will this starter fit?" If so, you're in luck, if not, try the Old Twenty Parts Company in England. [email protected] They are very long lasting engines, and most parts are readily available. Most are hard to start - block heater helped on ours, even in summer! Hope this helps.
