how can timing jump after someone else has used a tractor, is this something that just happens or does someone have to do something to it?

Hi,
If you are talking about a diesel, the timing cannot move unless you have a major failure of the timing gears. The only timing that 'might' move is if the nuts on the main fuel pump are loose and the pump is allowed to turn in the slots. It will run a bit rough or smoke but thats all. Please tell us a bit more about what tractor it is and what has happened?

You need to expound a little about the problem. What model tractor is it? Is it gas or diesel? Do you mean cam timing in relation to the crank or do you mean distributor/injection pump timing?

it is gas and massey ferguson 230, and it is the timing with the distributor.

Hi,
Gotcha,If the distrubutor timing has moved it may be the drive pin in the gear below the distributor. You will have to remove the assembly to check it. If it is, the pin is 354 900 X1 refered to in the parts book as a 'bolt'
