I was putting a light on the back of my 65 so I can see to put hat out. The light was going kinda dim so I thought the grd. was bad. I hooked a ground to the frame. The light seemed ok. I got on the tractor to back it out and it went to high rpm's. I throttled down a little and then it went dead. It won't hit a lick. Turns over good. It has a half a tank of fuel. Could it be the light? What is it? Thanks

You say it went to high rpm's first, and then died out.
If it was a gas engine I would definately say the fuel level in the carb. got low due to lack of fuel. Because then, that happens.

But with a diesel. Hm... can you take a look at the diesel pump to see that the arms for the trottle and stop works properly ?

I have run my share of diesels out of fuel, and they never increase speed before dying out due to fuel starvation.

On my MF 65 I have a problem, and that is that I can not get the arm for the trottle that sits on the diesel pump tightened to the shaft that goes through the diesel pump cover. It is always a little loose, and sometimes it idles faster, and sometimes it idles slower.

If the arm gets loose there, the arm can still be in closed position when you think you have some trottle on.
Just a thought from me.

The electrical should only effect the starter and sounds like that is working ok. Must be having a fuel supply problem or timing got out.
later,
Jerry

Sheer coincidence I think. If it is a diesel it won't be electrical. It sounds to me like a blocked fuel filter. When was the last time you changed them?

Other possibilities are the outlet from the fuel tank becoming blocked with muck/rust, lift pump shot,or air in the fuel system.

Could be gas in fuel. Try draining fuel tank, changing filters and refill with clean fuel. Good luck
