Hey guys,
I was just given a MF from a friend of mine. After some pictures i realized it is a TO20 or a TE20?? I dont know where to find the serial # to find the year. I found the engine serial though.

So here"s the deal. It needs axle seals. They leak onto the brakes and they dont work to well. What is involved in doing this? Should i fix the brakes too when i have the wheels off?

The engine has a pretty bad knock at anything above idle. I"m sure it will last forever but is there a good solution for this?

The owner converted it to 12v except the alternator/generator. Do i just need a 12v Generator to complete the process?

I just blew the rear tire and i am unsure of what the procedure would be to replace it.

Tire if your not picky you can go to a tire recycler and maybe find a near bald one for less that 45.00 , the engine knock could be anything from a loose piston or wrist pin to a rod ready to come thru block fix this first bacause if you don't and put money everywere else then she blows you are out of luck ,as far as axle seals drove a tractor for years with out any brakes until I about wiped out the farmers housekepper coming out of his driveway then HE SPENT MONEY TO FIX and the charging system you have many routes to follow there good luck

hmmm... I just paid $700 to be as lucky as you!!!I see it differently. I relish a challenge. Yes the lower engine knock is expensive, but it also gives you an excuse to have the engine rebuilt. The tire? Hell, man can"t have a mismatched set and the front are only 60 a piece mounted. That takes care of all four tires. The electrical? Set down and review what the previous owner did, then switch to a GM alternator. Now about that paint.... Aaron

PS, If worse comes to worst, give it to me!

How much does a free tractor cost?

$400 for the tire. If it has a salty liquid in it, act quickly to minimize the rust damage. If there is no salt, you can reflect a while.

The engine sounds kinda bad. No, they do not run forever. They cost a lot to repair, too.

Frankly, for what it would take to get this gift running, you could buy a good, serviceable tractor.

I inherited a TEA20 in good condition and have had nothing but trouble with it. The hydraulic pump worked intermittently for a while, then quit altogether. The engine went from so-so to very bad. Starting in the winter was out of the question, even with a massive block heater. Now it won't run without backfiring, so is parked in the back of the barn.

The Massey Harris 30 which replaced it starts and runs well, pulls strongly, and causes me much less frustration.

Is it too late to give it back?

My thinking is unless you run the tractor a lot, why spend thousands on a "better" tractor if you can put a few hundred in this one, provided it will do what you need it to do..... .

You can find a tractor tire much cheaper than $400....you can mount it yourself, and unless your plowing or something you don't necessiarly need fluid in the tires.....

As for the knock.....it might not be the bottom end..... ...You can by a mechanics stethascope for a few dollars..... listen around on the block and you might be able to tell where the knock is coming from.

I think I'd investigate a little more before deciding to get rid of it.....
