Just acquired a MF165 tractor with a235 loader on it. It is in very bad condition but runs very well. The main problem is in the hydraulics for the loader The loader has a seperate control valve mounted on the loader and has 2 spools and double acting cylinders. the hose to supply the valve comes from the PTO cover on the left side of the tractor. The loader will lift the arms by them self but will not lift 100 lbs.The pump is very noisey when it runs. When you depress the clutch half way down the tractor stops but the pumps keeps working ,but when you press it the rest of the way the pumps stops. Is this Right?
The tractor has multi power, but the lever is broken or diconnected so I don't know if it works.
The 3pt hitch does not work either. Itryed all the combination of levers on the controls for the 3pt but it does not budge. Are the two systems run from the same pump?I tried to find out some info from other post but niot sure which pump I have. There is mention of a tandem pump on some models. The tarcotor has a two stage clutch and a two postion pto ground and live the pto turns when it is engaged, If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. The rest of the tractor is rough but I think I can handle that kind of stuff. Thank you in advance for any help.
Ron

These tractors have two hydraulic pumps. It is
possible that the main hyd. pump is bad. It runs
the lift arms. The hoses on the pto cover come
from the auxilary hyd. pump. It sounds to me like
it may be nearly worn out also. The tractor has
to be split in half to repair or replace these
pumps. My father bought a 165 new and I have a
165 and a 175 now so I have been around these
tractors about 40 years.

Ron:

My 165 also has the dual clutch.

Your multipower lever has linkage down to a 2nd smaller hydraulic pump that actuates your multipower clutch. I think it's fairly common for the linkage to break or loose a pin, it might still work if you fix the linkage.

If your loader valve is fed from the side cover, then the three point lift pressure(from the belly pump)may be diverted to the loader instead of the rear lift arms. Look to see if you have a diverter valve on top of the lift cover, it would set on the right front corner of the cover.

Also, see if the loader works at all when both the quadrant levers are down. Normally the draft lever has to be up in the "constant pumping" range of the quadrant for the loader to work off the belly pump.

Lastly, there's a fellow on this site named Big Dean, the authority on these tractors. Here's a link to his website. He is the best resource you'll find, he also has a CD on the MF 100's.

Ron,

On the MF's with a two stage clutch the tractor motion stops have way down on the clutch. The PTO and belly pump continue to work until the clutch is pushed in completely. That is the live PTO.

If the pump is making noise and not lifting well then it is probably in need of rebuilding.

As for the lift arms. If memory serves correctly, I think you should move the hydraulic lever closest to the seat(draft) in the middle of the quadrant. Then try moving the farthest lever(lift arm). Also try moving the lift arm lever about 3/4 of the up for the arms and then try moving the draft. Do this with the clutch pedal released. May be that the pump is too wore out to work.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
