Ok,what does the oil line that runs from the left side of the engine block then up to the top of the Hydrolic tank do? It doesnt used the same oil as the engine does it? Im asking this question for another person. I've looked at the tractor and it has me stumped. thanks for any help

I can't imagine that happening .... the flathead Continental engine in that model 30 has two oil fittings on the left side of the block. The upper one is pressuruzed and feeds oil to the oil filter canister plus maybe to the oil pressure gauge and sometimes to the governor. The lower fitting is a drain fitting (much lower pressure) from the oil filter canister and simply dumps oil back into the oil pan. If your tractor has hydraulics on a model 30, then the factory hydraulic pump would be on the front right of the engine (opposite the governor). Otherwise, there might be a pump off the crank pulley or maybe the PTO at the back. Not questioning your question here but are you absolutely sure that it is a line from the hydraulic tank? Which fitting on the block's left side does it hook up to, the upper or the lower fitting?

On my Colt, that is the overflow line for the hydraulic tank. MH wants 10w motor oil used in their hydraulics, so I suppose it is better putting a little oil in the base than on the ground.

My 44 has a line from the Hydraulic pump housing to the top of the oil tank in front of the rad. I have often wondered what it was for but I guess it could be an overflow. I always thought is was a breather of some sort.
