Did not like using the forks they were hard to get under the 1,500 lb bales. Also with the heavy bucket and comercial forks holding the bale out further made it even harder to lift it up off the stack. Now I can stab the bales and lift more weight being further back. Mark H.

Hi,
Looks like a great job but curious to know why the 'spears' are angled against the main frame.

Do to my FREE Tilt Cylinders being shorter than I would have wanted but the price was right I had to mount them that way to make them level at 9 ft and at ground level. My hay is stacked 3 high and allmost 4 ft thick so at 9 ft I am sticking the hay in the middle of the bale for lifting it. If I had not had to go so high then I could have made the spears plum to the side brackets. Mark H.

Great looking rig. That's about the slickest bale spear I've seen, I like the way you think.

I especially like the dual task set-up. Mind if I steel your design????

Look forward to seeing your snow blade.

Jeff

Spear Close up picture in reply to lonestarjeff, 11-16-2005 18:26:27

I just ran the spears thru 2 - 1/2" thick 3 1/2" x 6" plates welded between the 1/2" thick 6" X 18" side plates on each side. That way I did not have to weld the spears in and the welded mount for the spears make the Loader Arm Mounts real strong. They are offset to get the most weld between the sides and keeps the sides from bending or spreading. The 3 inch channel between them ties both sides together for putting it on but the load is completely on the Loader Arms. The picture is taken when the spears are 9 ft plus off the ground and still level. Mark H.

Go for it not a big buck set up but being able to do more than one thing appeals to me. Not hard to build either. Just need to find a cheap blade to fabercate into it with tilt out for pushing snow to the side if I want or just straite ahead. Mark H.

Spears Removed in reply to Willy-N, 11-16-2005 11:44:26

I made holders for the Spears when removed. Now I won't poke the cows with them when done. I also plan to use this mount for a front snow blade on the MF 135. The blade will pin into the mount like the spears. The spears have pins that lock them in so they won't slip out of the holes. The mount is made of 1/2" thick steel and the place the spears lock into is also 2 plates each of 1/2" thick steel with 1 1/2" holes drilled in them. That way if the spears get bent I can replace them easy later. Very strong set up for lifting now. I made a Bale Stop in case one wanted to go back over the lift arms. I stab them in the middle so the plate is as high as the top of the bale. Mark H.
