I've signed up to buy a good-running '68 MF 135 diesel, but the water pump is leaking. Is the pump worth rebuilding or is a new one the way to go? Does the radiator have to come off to replace the water pump? My manuals are on the way, just trying to get a head start. Thanks.

Hi,
Yes, repair kits are available but you will need a puller to remove the fan hub. The puller needs to attach to the bolt holes. It might be risky pulling on the flange. A press would be advisable to push the bearing housing out. Water pumps are readily available either genuine or non-gen and aren't too expensive. If you decide to do it yourself make sure you make a note of the exact position of the hub on the shaft to ensure that the belt line remains straight.
Cheers
David

You can buy a new water pump for around $70..... The best way to replace it is to remove the hood and sheet metal.....remove the radiator.....block up the front end and remove the front axal..... ..now you can get to the water pump to remove it..... ..It's not as bad as it sounds..... .probably took me 4 hours, but I work slow..... .this is a really good time to replace the timing gear gasket and front oil seal as well..... .....

No need to remove the front axal if your not going to do the front oil seal....but hey....It's only 4 bolts and the 2 stabilizer bars and it's done.....
