I HAVE A MASSEY DELUXE MODEL MF35 SERIAL NO. SGM 208140 WITH O.H. VALVES THAT FOULS OUT PLUGS DUE TO EXCESSIVE OIL USEAGE. SINCE I DON'T USE THIS TRACTOR THAT OFTEN , I DON'T WANT TO O.H. THE ENGING IF I CAN FIND A SPARK PLUG THAT WILL BURN HOT ENOUGHT TO NOT FOUL OUT. IS THERE ANYTHING OUT THERE THAT WILL BE ANTI FOULING?

D-18Y Champion (or equivalent) is recommended for oil fouling. If that still fouls you might try a D-21.

Gene, if I had a tractor that burned oil that bad, as a last resort just in case the rings were all stuck n carboned up badly, I would change oil and add (totalling to the full amounts) a light weight detergent oil and add maybe one quart of auto tranny fluid and one quart of Rislone or similar engine flush to flush n clean things and possibly?? free up some stuck or carboned rings, and use her hot n hard for the recommended time. CAUTION this procedure may harm some seals if they were questionable !!!

Then drain her out n refill with a heavier grade of good oil n see what happens (probably nothing different, but what the heck)

Then see what highest heat range of plugs will still fit n work with no interference and make sure the ignition is well tuned n try her. You might even try (if plugs are washer type) an extra plug washer which makes em run hotter.

Of course, you could even switch to an electronic ignition and use a high voltage high energy coil and run a wider plug gap as that may help keep potential fouling deposits off.

After that expense n trouble (which may help nuttin, although the elec ignition may well allow longer plug use prior to fouling) then I guess you bite the bullett, rob the wifes cookie jar, n overhaul her (the tractor not the wife)

Let us know, best wishes n God Bless

John T
