Sticky Float Valve on 162 Continental?

My Massey Harris 30 has gotten into a little routine I need to change. It starts well, warms up a bit, then dies from a lack of fuel just as I settle down to work. A couple of taps on the carburetor around the fuel intake and it starts again and runs normally.

Best advice has it that the float is worn and sticking, and that I should replace the float and the valve and blow the carburetor out.

The only carb I have repaired was on a Yamaha 2 cycle golf cart, and it worked, but only after I found a missing part in the gravel under the engine.

Will it be easy to find the parts? Should I take the carburetor apart first? Is the repair much of a job?

Thanks,

Rod

After a good cleaning with some carb cleaner(liberal use of choke cleaner will work fine),install the needle in the seat and place a punch on the needle and tap it lightly with a small hammer. That will reseat the needle.Reinstall the float and reassemble the carburetor.Turn the carburetor upside down(back and forth)You should be able to hear the float swapping ends if it isn't rubbing the bowl inside.

Buy a kit first then look over the paper work that comes with it. Those and all tractor carb are pretty simple and easy to work on.

Be careful with these kits. complete Marvel Schebler kits may not have the correct throttle shaft lever. I had to lengthen mine to achieve the proper geometry. You can buy a seperate float and needle valve.
