About 2 months ago I bought a MF 35 diesel from a kindly old gentleman nearby. He told me that it was a 62 model. I have gone over it and fixed all of the incidental things that needed attention and am trying to decide whether to keep it or sell it in the spring. I bought it mostly in order to get a couple of pieces of equipment that came with it.

Here is my question: My 35 has a grill unlike others that I have seen. It has neither the louvered grill like the 50s vintage Fergusons or most of the 35s that I have seen nor the wrap-around grille like on the later 50s/early 60s tractors. Mine has a different front cowling and a single piece, perforated and ridged screen held in place by 4 bolts that is basically rectangular but with rounded corners. Is this a transitional design?

Another difference that I have noticed is the air cleaner. Mine has a round rather than rectangular air filter, stamped AC with a through-the-hood air stack. I first noticed this when trying to buy a replacement air cleaner to intake manifold hose. None of the MF 35 hoses would fit properly and I had to adapt one from a later 135 diesel as the MF parts books did not show my air cleaner.

By the way, my tractor is not a Deluxe as it has no PS, only 2 gauges, oil pressure and water temperature, and 26 inch rear rims rather than power adjusts.

You probably have a FE35 AKA UK35.They have Lucas electrical and air breather thru the hood with a cap. The SN tag should help clarify if it"s still in place

Mine shows FE35 on the plate, with serial number SNM239540, but it has a double clutch and a Perkins diesel.

Rod just like the North American TO/MF 35's the UK FE/MF 35 models were available with the Standard 23c 4cyl diesel and later with the 3cyl Perkins there was also a Standard Motors gas or petrol version. I have yet to see one of these. Perhaps some of our UK board readers could provide some info on this model. All the UK models I have come across have been dual clutch models (I am sure there were single clutch versions)

Mine has the Perkins diesel and double clutch as well. I will take a closer look at the SN plate tomorrow.

Thank you for the information. Yes, my 35 does indeed have Lucas electricals, and the serial number tag is still in place. I will take a closer look tomorrow.

With the exception that mine is a deluxe model, your tractor sounds very similar to my 1961 MF35. It has the two-screw, gray grille and the AC air cleaner.

After fighting for some time with the top radiator hose I just came to believe that Massey Ferguson hoses never fit right. My intake manifold hose is so old it is white in places, but it still works so I haven't tried to replace it.

The tractor has no temperature gauge, just ammeter and oil pressure, as well as the tractometer. I guess the dash cutouts determined how many instruments the manufacturer installed.

The 35's a great little worker and I wouldn't willingly part with it.

The letters SNM on the serial number indicate that your tractor is a British built MF35, Standard (S) as opposed to narrow/vineyard, 3 Cylinder Perkins Diesel (N) as opposed to 4 Cylinder Standard 23c diesel, or peterol or petrol/tvo and Deluxe (M). Deluxe had the dual clutch and a better seat.

The bonnets/front grills were the same for all. An excellent tractor which should serve you well.
