Will the Delco distributor as used on the TO20 fit on the TE 20 that used the Lucas distributor? I am trying to do away with the English electrical system on this thing.

They used the same block, and the same cam so common sense says that the 2 should intechange, but then the British have there own ideas about things.

Thanks for any input or advice.

Jerry,
My TE/TO-20 manual says "the TO-20 distributor can be used on the TE-20 engine if the TO distributor high tension leads are installed, and if the fully advanced timing is set at 32 degrees before top center. The 32 degree point on the early TE-20 with unmarked flywheels is 13 3/4 starter ring gear teeth ahead of top center".

Instructions for timing the TO-20 engine are " set breaker points to .022" gap. To time ignition, crank engine until #1 is on compression stroke and the 32 degree line on flywheel aligns with pointer at the inspection port. Install distributor with the retaining cap screw finger tight. Rotate the distributor cam as far as it will go in the direction of it's normal rotation. While holding cam in fully advanced position, rotate distributor in the opposite direction until breaker contacts just start to open. Tighten distributor retaining cap screws. Recheck timing with a timing light to check action of distributor governor, operate engine @ ~400 RPMs, spark should occur at 7 degrees +/- 2 degrees before top dead center".

Basically sounds like ... install the Delco distributor and set timing like you would on a TO-20.

Go for it.
Good luck

George
