I have a TO35 Deluxe. It runs fine but it seems to be alot of heat coming from the exhaust, you can't keep your foot on the running board . Also it backfires when you shut it off.Help.Can anyone figure out what the problem is/ Thanks James

something that you have probably chacked but if a baffle came loose in the muffler and was retricting the flow it sure as hell would generate a ton of heat in that area and quite posssibly have enough residual heat to ignite that last bit of unburnt fuel that would be there when you shut it off .just a thought

Too lean mixture and/or retarded timing is as good a guess as I can make based on what you describe.

The carb is set by the book and also the timing. Thanks

The carb can be adjusted by the book and it still could run lean due to a leak around the carb attach flange or a intake manifold leak or both. Have you checked to make sure that your advance system is working?
