recently, my mf40 has been lazy in forward. - 4spd, no clutch, shuttle shift- when cold, reverse will kick in first up, but forward takes a while. also, when climbing a steep incline, forward sometimes drops right out - like it's gone into neutral and is free wheeling.
Getting worse. Oil is clear, seems very light in colour and texture- is this k?. and is full + some on the stick. When i first purchased it, it was waay over-full on the stick. Could it be I have a different stick and its actually low? Have photo if this helps. O-or are we starting to talk bigger probs here?. There is another thing where the trannie locks up and dont move at all when in really steep stuff. I use HOe or bucket to get more level then get out ok. that seems to be an operational limitation, but the other seems like somethings not right. any ideas?.

Your problem is caused by the forward clutch pack seals and probably the disc and separator plates being worn. I just rebuilt one of them that was doing the same thing about a month ago. If I can be of further assistance email me

Thanks Big Dean, Hmm - looks like I'll have to try harder to find a suitable manual.
