Just got my MF165 with an Allied loader and was wondering about the clutch. In Low Multi Power and putting it in gear, it wants to grind a little--even if I wait for a second before I shift it. Do I need to adjust the clutch?? The clutch grabs up close to the end of travel and there is no creeping or slipping the clutch if U just want ease into something.. Hope nothing is wrong with it..Still can't understand the adjustment that I have read from you guys about the clutch. AND about multi-Power. I seem to be using it all the time in low multi power..Some one said that is a No-No. I just have 5 acres that I disc and plant. nothing too bad on it.. will be using the 3 bottom plow also this fall. Thanks

Mine is 'findem and grindem' too. I haven't known it to be any different since my uncle bought the tractor new in 1965.

I'd shift the multi-power into high on a regular basis... I use it in high to travel.. There's supposed to be a potential lubrication problem in the tranny if you run in low all the time.

You'll notice it shifts real hard when you're in high I shift the multi-power back to low to take the pressure off the tranny.

Well I ordered a operator's manual yesterday. Still think the clutch may need adjusting because it engages all the way at the top of peddle travel. OR is it supposed to be that way???

Hi Mike -

You should have a half to 3/4" of free pedal travel before you feel pressure from inside. That won't stop the grinding, but will save the engine thrust bearings.
