After months of aggravation, I finally found the culprit. After removing the carb about a dozen times, I found a thread about 1 1/2 inches long all balled up that was cutting off the fuel flow.. at times it ran great, then other times I had to run it on full choke. Where it was hiding, I have no idea, but finally showed up at the entrance to the carb.

I found a lady bug floating around just before the needle and seat once in a while it would go over the hole in the seat and shut off the gas to the carb."Drove me nuts"

These old machines have stood out under trees, in old barns, in blackberry bushes, etc for decades and it never ceases to amaze me the crap and corruption that gets into the fuel tank. What amazes me more is how difficult it is to get it out. I use my TO-30 pretty regularly especially the last 5 years and I'm still getting fine dirt ay the sediment bowl. It's eather dirt or the broken baffle sliding around in the tank is scraping off the lining! Haven't found any string....yet.

Just north of Missoula about 45 miles. A little town called St. Ignatius on the Rez.
