Hi all. I've been told of a Massey-Ferguson #3 baler that's for sale...I am in need of a small squre baler. Can anybody tell me details about this particular baler? I'm not familiar with MF--not a lot of 'em around my area.

How much does it weigh? ARE PARTS AVAILABLE? Where?
What's the horsepower requirement? How does it do on hills (I have lots) and soft ground (I have some)?
What should one go for (Mid-Atlantic region)?

thanks for your input!
Tom

Gosh, it's been a long time since I used a MF-3 baler, but I remember it as a good machine. One of it's features of the day was that you only greased the Knotter mechanism once per year. It had plugs in place of grease fittings. You removed the plugs, put grease fittings in, grease it, remove the fittings and re-install the plugs. Made for a nice clean system. Grease and hay chaf makes an awful mess!!. As far as power goes, 30 horsepower and up will do fine. I used to pull a #3 PTO baler with a 52 Ford 8N. I live in West Virginia so you know it was not flat lands. Once in a while I'd get to use a MF-35 Diesel to bale and it had gobs of power to bale with. I would imagine that a Massey dealer can still get parts, but they might be high priced. That's about all I can tell you.... I remember it as a good machine.
