A friend of mine sent me a picture of a M-H tractor that is for sale out in Alberta Canada.
From the picture, it appears to be a Model 22 or
an 81. The tractor is painted yellow. My question is, did massey ever paint any of their tractors yellow, say for the military or some other Gov't agency?, or do you think someone who owned it at one time painted it this colour.
Thanks for any replies.

The series of tractor that you refer to were 81, then 82, then 20, then 22. The first three had a fuller sidepanel (more at the front) and they also had a louvered tin grille. The 22 had a somewhat smaller side panel with a tin, horizontal "bar style" grille. Where abouts is the tractor located out here. A lot of municipalities painted their tractors yellow, probably for visibility and the "fleet" thing. The RCAF used those tractors for airport tarmack duty during the way, some were camoflagued and some were painted blue from what I've been told.

Yup, you've got a nice little 22 there in the photo without the sidepanels which are fairly easy to fabricate since they bolt down (and do not have spring-loaded latches like some other MH models). With the roll bar, I'd guess a municipality ditch grass cutter or something like that. Not a lot of the standard wide fronts made.

I was at a show awhile ago and saw a 20 (we have 2 20s and a 22) that had the govornor infront of the timing cover, found the owner and asked him why the govornor was in front of the timing cover like the 81, he said the first 100 20s were accually the exact same as the 81. I checked the serial number and it was a 20. Kinda wierd why MH did that.

My friend lives in Edmonton. Where are you located?

If you send me your e-mail address, i will forward to you the photos he sent me. Sure looks like a 22 to me.

In the meantime i will e-mail him and ask for the
exact location of the tractor and who to contact.
Who knows, might end up being a real good find.
ye never know.
