How do I change this bearing?

I have pulled my left axel housing to tighten a loose 3pt pull pin and pulled the PTO shaft to change the seals at the same time. Found the front PTO needle bearing in pieces. I have ordered a new bearing but how do I remove the bearing retainer? My I&T manual just says The front needle bearing can be removed after pulling its retainer from the bore in center housing wall. There are two holes either side of the shaft opening in what I assume is the bearing retainer that I thought were for a puller, but they are not threaded. How do I get a puller on this? Through the shaft hole with a hooked puller? My thinking is that if this was a complicated procedure the I&T manual would have more to say but I thought Id get some experienced opinions before trying anything. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Dan

Is it possible that you put a spanner in the two holes and turn out the retainer?

Looks like a tricky one without the proper tool. Probably not enough room to put a steel disc with threaded hole inside & arc weld it to outer case. I'd use a die grinder & grind inside bearing along its 'length' at 8 o'clock and 10 o'clock and then crumple the case in with an old screwdriver. Of course, one has to keep the grinding debris from getting into where it shouldn't ....

If all else fails, pack the bore full of water soaked rags and weld a bead inside the race. The weld will shrink the race and it should fall out.

per MF135 manual page 10-4, line b:

use a suitable bearing puller and sliding hammer and pull old bearing out rearward

line c. Use special tool MF 13 with 813 mandrel and install new bearing (special tools are in MF 400 tool set)

I fought the IT manuals and finally bot real ones, spent 3 days reading every page of the genuine MF manual - was happy as a clam

I got this tractor only a short while ago and always intended to get the MF manuals this winter. Didn"t think I needed them yet for the few things I was planning on working on this fall. Now I just need to figure out where to buy the proper bearing puller and how much gets pulled...just the inner race or the retainer. I think I"ll have to wait until the part shows up to see what it looks like. At least it sounds like it comes out toward the rear where I can get to it.

A steady hand with the ability to weld a bead around the race surface , let it cool and race will fall out. Like the other post says, a wet rag will keep slag where you don't want it. Race comes out towards the thin side of race. This works fine when you can't justify the fancy 1 use puller.

This is exactly why I do not use IT manuals. Get yourself some MF manuals, and be sure to also get the Parts Manual. It will have detailed exploded views to help you.
