Hello Folks, Just hauled home a Masse-Ferguson 2244 with a loader and detachable backhoe I think it was made by Massey also). Looking for people who have had, do have or are knowledgeable about this tractor and its backhoe. The backhoe swing motor has a bad bottom bushing and damaged cross support pin/shaft. If I could determine the Model number of the backhoe there are several manuals available. Is the Model 52 the larger backhoe or is the 54 larger. Where might I find a serial number or model number. I could send digital pictures. The Hydraulic reverser transmission was working well when it was cold but some times stopped as it got warm. Both previous ownwers were using dextron111 which is a 5w oil and the original oil was suppose to be Masse-Ferguson M-1110. I will drain the reverser transmission and update with a spin on oil filter. The unit needs a lot of preventative maintainence but looks like a nice unit. Any help would be appreciated. I'm sure some of you can help with this tractor and attachment or can refer me to a place that can help. Thanks in advance. Craig

Hi Craig It has been so long since I have worked on one of those old 2244 crawlers I have about forgot all I know about them. The M1110 was the old type A transmission fluid. When everyone started replacing type A with Dextron transmission fluid we had a a service bulletin from Massey Ferguson telling us anything that used the M1110 oil to replace it with the M1129A Trans/Hyd oil used in the MF100 series tractors. Today it is called Permatran 3 the universal Trans/Hyd oil sold by most places that sells oil will work in place of it. The MF54 is the big backhoe you can tell the difference between the MF54 and the MF52 backhoe by the swing motor The MF54 hoe the bottom plate on the swing motor bolts on the MF52 the bottom plate is cast in with the swing motor. Hope this helps some

Hello Big Dean, Thank you for responding. The closest Masse-Ferguson dealer is over 260 miles away and just young folks work there. They said the same about the Permatran and like you said the generic tractor hydraulic tranmisson fluid would work. I have more confidence hearing it from you. Your information on the Backhoe sounds correct also. I got some photo copies with the manual the last owners had that show a Mod 52-212 Massey backhoe but some things are different. The swing motor on mine has a heavy shaft pin that I think goes all the way from the top to the bottom of the motor. There is a cross strap machined or welded to the shaft on the top of the motor that bolts to the motor. Unlike the copies I have there are two bolts that bolt the motor to the bottom support flange. I'm sure not a mechanic so my words and explanation might be way off. If I have my wife take some digital pictures of the backhoe set up and sent might you be able to recognize the Model. I will get a manual from Yesterday's as soon as we are fairly sure. This might be generic backhoe but I don't think so.Sounds like you worked professionaly on the tractors. Thanks again. Looking forward to your response. Craig
