I've got a 135 perk gas. The gauge lights were working fine but have now died. the "black box" seems to be my problem. MF parts tells me this box is no longer available. One of the mechanics there told me that the gauge lights were 6volt and that the black box was a resistor that dropped the voltage from 12 to 6. I read a post on here that says these bright green gauge lights are HIGH voltage. Can anyone confirm this?? If I had a working unit to check out would make life simpler

Those lights are similar to a neon light there is a fancy name for them but I cannot remember it. The bulb is integrated into the gauge if the bulb was bad you had to get the whole gauge. It has been several years since those inverters (black box) or the gauges were available from Massey. Way back in the late 1970s when we ordered a gauge for one of those we got a gauge with a standard dash light bulb with instructions how to connect them.

I'm also curious about dash lights. Are they integrated into the gauge or is there a separate light (like in the center of the dashboard) which illuminates them all. My 2135 (Continental gas) came with what was apparently an add on hour meter on the center of the dashboard right above the steering column. I don't know if any of the gauges are original but the the ones I suspect are original are Stewart Warner and have no integrated bulb sockets. The other gages are Suzuki and have integrated sockets. Can anyone help us?
