Hope someone can help. I've got a late 60's (I think) MF-50 with a three cylinder Perkins diesel engine. I've been told it has a 2 stage clutch...ie that depressing the clutch pedal through the first half of it's travel disengages the engine from the transmission, and then depressing it all the way to the stop will disengage the PTO. The PTO on my tractor will not disengage when the clutch is fully depressed, nor can I depress the clutch fully and move the PTO lever to the "engaged" position. Am I wrong about the way the clutch works? Am I missing something in my operating procedures? Thanks for any help! Dave

I have the same problem in a MF 30B I bought about a year ago. I don't know how it compares with the MF-50, but it also has the 3-cyl Perkins diesel. I think mine is late 70's or early 80's, however.

What I've found (by looking in the inspection plate below the tractor) is that I have a combination of problems.
1. One of the 3 clutch release levers is broken. This means that one "side" of the pressure plate is not being "pulled" when I push in the clutch. However, it still travels far enough to disengage the clutch.
2. Adjustments. My clutch linkage is adjusted to the maximum travel of the throwout bearing, so that's not a problem for me. However, there are adjustments on the clutch assembly that can be made through the inspection plate. These screws should only have about 0.09" clearance. Mine have 0.2" to 0.3".

I'll be splitting my tractor in the next few weeks to fix my two problems. I hope yours can be resolved with just adjustments.

Should have said that it still travels far enough to disengage the drive clutch, not the PTO.
