135 Gas Tank Cap

Recently, I replaced my gas tank cap since the rubber seal was dried out and cracking. Now I notice that after sitting in the sun all day, or running the engine for a bit, the tank gets pressurized. Is the cap supposed to have a vent hole in it, or is this normal? Engine is the Continental Z-145 if it makes any difference.

We've got the same problems w/ our 165. we replaced the cap, and now if it hasn't been run and it's in the sun, the tank gets pressurized. It is vented, but it must have a check in it that prevents it from coming out for some reason. Never had a problem with it building up a vacume.

For a tractor it must be vented both ways. I bought a diesel tractor with a blown injector pump seal. You guessed it; someone had installed a pressure cap.

Your tractor requires a vented cap. A non-vented cap (as used on modern cars) may fit but the pressure buildup could blow a line, filter, sediment bowl, perhaps even the tank. Some company has a free gas cap for certain tractors according to posts I've seen here on YT.

Mine had a vent in it and never built up pressure. Mark H.
