About to remove top plate of transmission of my 8 speed MF135. Couple questions for you guys who've done it.
What about gasket? Special one or make one? (assuming I tear it).
Any special problems with parts falling out/off during removal?
How about getting it back on and the forks in proper place, any problems with this procedure?
Your help and experience would be super and thanked.

The transmission cover shouldn't be a problem, just watch out for the detent springs, occasionally they stick to the cover instead of staying in their holes. Remove the oil filler cap to improve visibility when refitting, just make sure that the lever ends drop into the selector forks.

Bill There is a roller that has to be removed before you remove the liftcover. To remove it you remove the access plate with the response lever and dipstick in it. The roller that has to be removed is between two small levers sticking up from the pump. The levers will spring apart to get the roller out. I have a picture that show what is involved in removing the liftcover. If you will email me with an email address I will email it to you.

Thanks Big Dean, but I'm really confused by your response.

I want to remove the cover through which the transmission shifters reach....this is the same cover as the steering column. Isn't that where the transmission gears are?

Were your instructions not directed at removing the hydraulic top cover?

Confused in St. Louis, Bill

Hello Bill -

In response to the gasket question, I've had good success with just metal to metal with a light film of silicon caulking. (Not enough so it squeezes out the sides or fills the bolt holes.)

Clear is less visible than the white colour if it does squeeze out.

Jack
