MF 35 Diesel

Today I bought my first MF. I found this 62 (?) MF 35 diesel with mounted NH 450 mower and 2 X 14 Dearborn plow with for sale sign beside the road about 10 miles from home. I am a red and grey Ford guy and do not know my MFs very well but had been looking for both a sickle bar mower and a 2 X 14 Dearborn plow and the owner would not separate the lot so I bought all. Plans are to fix all of the incidentals on the 35 and sell it, keeping the implements.

Tractor seems to be pretty straight. Starts and runs well with only normal diesel smoke. Everyting except gages seem to work, including lights. I will replace all gages and adjust brakes. Owner says two-state clutch was replaced recently. Tractor has 14.9x24 rears and left tire appears to be original (about 75%). No spin-outs or power steering. Also has twin spool remote valve. Tach shows 0641 hours but does not work. I plan to replace tach, temp, and oil pressure gages.

Is there anything particular that I should pay attention to on this tractor before I prepare it for sale? Any thoughts about value?

Thanks, in advance for any advice.

Tach selection can be tricky but Bareco.com has a good website.

641 hours is pretty low for a tach. Mine quit at 4600. Any chance the cable is broken or disconnected?

Sounds like a good tractor. It may grow on you.

Thanks, Rod.

The cable may be broken, and I'm sure it has many more than 641 hours. Today, I plan to replace the oil and temperature gauges and remove the tach. The needle has fallen off of the shaft and is in the bottom of the dial. I may try to open it up and repair it. With patience, I was able to repair the one in my 51 8N, and it has been working fine these past 15 years since. If I cannot repair it, I will try bareco.com.

Once I go over it thoroughly, I will indeed put it through its paces and decide whether to keep it or not. Of course, I should keep it and my Ford 860 and sell the 8N but the 8N was my Fathers so I will probably keep it.

Thanks, again.
