Have located a Massey Ferguson F-40 (looks like a Continental/Gas). 3 Forward/1 Reverse/Hi-Lo. Serial Number charts show it as produced in 1956. Can anyone refer me to a website or other source for HP, PTO info & other specs. Average value and salvage value. This one has been sitting out in a grown up field in part of an estate for at least a year. May have water in the oil & none in the radiator... 3 out of 4 tires still inflated. Leaking fluids from rear axle area.

I would sure appreciate direction to some info about this thing before I make an offer. Thanks

I purchased an F40 at a place near Siloam Springs, Ar two months ago and paid $2800. I've put $700 into it (new tires and some misc stuff. I am very pleased with the tractor and love the high/low feature on my hilly 16 acres. I saw a fully restored F40 at MF Salvage just west of Siloam in Oklahoma that sold for $4000. In retrospect I am confident that I could have purchased my tractor for much less than I did.... I just didn't know better. For a tractor that is sitting in a field I would recommend a very low intial offer, maybe $1000 to $1500 (you can always come up!). Good luck!

Last fall, I purchased a MF TO-35 (kissing cousin of the F-40) at a local machinery auction. It was about to go for only $1600 and I jumped in and got it for $1800. It has the Standard Motors 4-cylinder diesel engine which runs fine (after a little starting fluid to get her running).

The tires were in fairly good shape - front were pratically new with the back having maybe 1/4 of their life left.

The only thing I've had to do to it was replace one of the fuel filter heads (the metal thing that the fuel filter canister screws into). I ran it out of diesel fuel and in re-priming it, stripped out one of the bleed valves.

It's been repainted (fair job)and has all the original lights (front and back).

I consider what I paid for it low... The are I'm in in Utah is still a very farming oriented area so the old tractors are just that - old tractors that people don't want. The "hobby farmer" (like me) is just starting to come into vogue.
