My brother and I are interested in getting into tractor pulling again. We used to pull a 44 diesel years ago and did fairly well. Our problem was power with 20.8- 38 rubber. Finally installed a chrysler 3 speed between the bell housing and input shaft of the transmission. This geared us low enough to spin out the tall tires. No one ever knew due to it being covered by the battery box. My question is which engine or setup would give us the most power. I know the 44-6 has a chrysler flat head 6 cylinder. Would this make more power than a 260 or 277 continental? If going with the continental would you prefer gas or diesel? The 444 has ten speed transmission. Is this geared lower than a 44 5 speed? Here where we are pulling tire size is unlimited and the engines can be hot rodded. (No turbos allowed.) The engines must be a stock block and no nitrous is allowed. Internal engine parts and compression ratios can be altered. Any and all information would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks, Curtis

The 44-6 runs a 226 continental engine. The H-260 and H-277 will pull alot more than the six cylinder. The standard 5-speed trans is stronger than the 444 rear-end.The Chrysler six cylinder was used in the first 101's and super 101.

how will the 6 do if you put a 244 in it?
