While replacing rings and inserts on my Massey Harris 333, I couldn't get the pan to come off of the engine block. Is it necessary to separate engine and bell housing on this continental engine in order to remove the oil pan? Anyone out there got a clue?

Thanks to Marlowe and C.T.in Oklahoma....but to get the pan off a Massey Harris 333, you need to remove the 4 bolts that hold the flywheel inspection plate on and disconnect the hydraulic return line. (I did figure that out finally.) The inspection cover splits into 2 parts and can be removed. This then allows you to access the back 3 oil pan bolts. Again, thanks for your input and as a result I looked harder. I may need to come back at a later date to find where I can get piston rings for the above engine. My auto parts dealer says he can get me a gasket set and inserts, but the specs on the rings that he can order don't match mine. Mine has 3 3/4" cylinder bore with 3--1/8" compression rings and 1 quarter inch oil control ring.

I don't want to send anybody on a wild goose chase, but when removing mine from my MF35, there was a bolt pretty well hidden near the transmission, right in the center of the pan. Just a suggestion, before you try to pry it off.
