HELP! My horse got bored and ripped the spark plug wires off of my 1963 gas MF35. The firing order is imprinted on the block 1-3-4-2 but I have no idea if this is left to right or vice versa. I also have no clue as to the placement on the distributor.

You must own a brother to my horse. My 3 year old Quarter Horse stud was done the same thing to a 1950 Ferguson TO30, but he got all the wiring. He doesn't realize that either the tractor works the pasture or he's going to. Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. This horse has eatin the paint off the hood of my pick-up as well as the seat and plug wires off the tractor. I finally got the wires placed correctly by trial and error and then "horse-proofed" the shed.

If the distributor has not been moved. Firing order, as you say, is 1-3-4-2 Distributor rotates counter clockwise - so - the wire on the distributor cap in about the 11 o clock position as you face the distributor on the left side of the engine, is to go to #1 (forward cylinder), next wire, about 7 oclock position goes to #3 cylinder, 4-5 oclock position wire goes to #4, and the last one, around 1-2 oclock goes to #2 cylinder. Put-put and it should run!!!!

Hi
I was looking for some advise in this area. My Massey 35 was running fine and i just thought id have a peak under the distributer cap for wear. What a mistake as it then would not start. Checking i found the rota arm had broken so i replaced this and the cap but now it still will not start. Just seems to backfire white smoke emitting fom under the fuel tank which is a little strange plus oil slerps out of the filter. Im fairly sure i have the firing order right as i wrote this down. Any ideas?

My horse prefers the padded seat. If I leave it out there, he'll have it off and carefully deposited in a brush pile within about five minutes.

Thanks for the reply. This horse enjoys car paint, Plug wires, upholstery, kitchen matches and tree bark. Do you need a "good" horse?

Cylinder numbering is 1-2-3-4, starting at the front, and going back.

Thanks for the info. This allowed me to eliminate one more variable. I finally found a wire pattern that runs smoothly through trial and error.

I failed to mention that this will work unless someone has set your distributor up different.

If your tractor doesn't start with the instructions above come back to the board and we will explain to you how to find #1 position on your distributor.

The # 1 position on your distributor is usually in the 10 o'clock position as you are standing looking at it. I believe your distributor turns counterclockwise. You can be sure by bumping the engine over with the cap removed.

Good luck on your tractor and your horse.

Thanks for your information. I found on line that cylinder #1 fired when fly wheel was 5 degrees off of dead center but for some reason my flywheel has no marks on it. Next I pulled the #1 plug and determined when cylinder was up and assumed that would put my rotor lined up with the correct plug port on the distributr to fire plug #1. That assumption was correct and the location was as you said...the 9:00 to 10:00 position and the rotor does rotate counterlockwise. Its running great now. Thanks.
