My I believe 1972 MF135 has suddenly began to lose power in tall grass and inclines with PTO engaged. Changed Fuel filter and had lots of trouble bleeding back into service. Still losing Power. Any other sugestions?

Hi,
Check that you have a good flow of fuel coming from the tap or at the end of the tap-pipe. There is a nylon thimble filter inside the tank which blocks frequently on 135's due to the reservoir at the back of the tank which collects rubbish. If you have a good flow you may have a problem in the lift pump. Normally the 135 will work as long as fuel can 'run' through the pump due to gravity. Remove both pipes from the lift pump and operate the priming lever. You should hear what I refer to as a sort of 'donkey' sound. That suggests that the valves are OK. If the pump is silent then you may have one of the valves held open by debris. The pump can be removed and taken apart. Note which way the cover fits in relation to the base. Look for any debris in the round valves and damage to the diaphragm. If all is OK refit the cap in the correct position and press the pump lever. This will operate and centralize the diaphragm. Tighten the screws evenly (Don't over tighten) whilst holding the lever down, then test and listen for the 'donkey'. Refit, bleed the system and hopefully that will cure your problem. Please let me know.
Regards
DavidP

Viola, checked the pump and cleaned it. I also blew out the line back into the fuel tank. I also added a Diesel fuel injector cleaner at a rate of 6:1 to 12 gal. of fuel. Everything appears to be back on track. Thanks for your pointers in the right direction.
