I can't get my 1974 mf 135 to go into engine speed pto. It slips easily into ground speed pto. When I try to engage the engine pto it is like the clutch isn't depressed. Any idea what might be wrong?

might check external clutch adjustment on side of tractor first, Big Dean has all the info you need

if tractor has been sitting, maybe some rust on the clutch face, with engine off, put PTO in engine gear with decent implement load on the PTO, start engine and then stomp on the clutch to see if you can break it free or polish some of the rust off

if oil contamination on the clutch lining, might require splitting the tractor to correct

Thanks to everyone for your responses.
The suggestion to really depress the clutch worked great.

There is an Internal adjustment for the PTO clutch that you make up through the hole in the bottom of the transmission bellhousing It sounds like it may need to be adjusted If you will send an email address I have a picture that show how to adjust the Pedal free travel and the internal PTO adjustment I will email you

Are you sure you are completely pushing the clutch in all the way down? The 2 stage clutch requires more forse to disengage the PTO Clutch after the Engine one is. Mark H.

I have to push mine to the Running Board to work the PTO. The Engine does not require it to be pushed as far and much easier to do for shifting. Mark H.
